The Orange Fire Department battled a massive five-alarm apartment fire that left 150 residents homeless.

Orange firefighters battled a five-alarm fire that tore through an apartment building early Tuesday leaving 150 people without a place to live.

Firefighters got called to the three-story, 82 unit building around 1:30 a.m. to battle the blaze which did most of its damage on the upper floors, according to PIX 11 New York.

Rochelle Barclay told PIX 11 she woke up to a nightmare outside her door stating the hallway was thick with smoke. Barclay said she took a deep breath and made her way down the stairs to safety.

Some families lost everything they owned in the fire while others were escorted into parts of the structure to claim what they could after the fire was extinguished.
